What Is That Stuff Fluoride?
Some people dissaprove of having flouride in our drinking water because some say that drinking fluoride in water make you more likely to have cavities and that it causes your bones to be weaker. People also dissaprove of adding the fluoride because they dont really know how much fluoride is in their water and if there is too much it could cause stains and problems with their teeth.
I think adding fluoride to our drinking to is a good idea because it helps our teeth not decay and keeps them stronger for a longer time. Also many dentists and toothpaste brands approve of fluoride and adding it to our drinking water. One more reson i agree with adding it is because if it was really bad for us it would not still be in our water and widespread fluoridation would never have begun in 1945.
The chemical advances that needed to be made in toothpaste before fluoride could be widely used was a fluoride-abrasive combination. Which pairing stannous fluoride with calcium pyrophosphate.Proctor & Gamble launched this formula in 1955 as Crest and proceeded to dominate the fluoride toothpaste market for the next 10 years.
One side effect of using fluoride in drinking water that concerns me are when the levels of fluoride get too high. If the amount of fluoride in your water get above 4 mg/1 for many years may it can result in cases of crippling skeletal fluorosis, which is a serious bone disorder. To prevent dental decay only 1 mg/1 of fluoride needs to be in the water. Another effect of having too much fluoride in the water is some children under nine years of age exposed to levels of fluoride greater than about 2 mg/1 may develop a condition known as “endemic dental fluorosis” which makes there teeth appear chalky and have brown stains on them.
